The big update from the month of May at The Weather Network was the coverage of the devastating tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma on May 20. I was working on-air when the tornado hit and the decision was made to cover the tornado damage live.
Starting at 4:30 p.m., I did live hits every 6-8 minutes for four minutes at a time for seven straight hours. I bounced between giving information we had on the tornado, monitoring news outlets on the ground, checking out social media and talking with our stormhunters Mark Robinson and Jaclyn Whittal on the phone as they drove toward Moore.
It was an exhilarating and exhausting experience. It was the first time I had experienced a 'breaking news' type broadcast at The Weather Network. It was great to witness the complete team effort necessary to put the best coverage possible on-air: between the director, producer, editors, writers, and the on-air crew, we all pulled together.
And it was great to hear how the pleased the bosses were with our coverage.

April Update
I just finished my first full month on-air at The Weather Network. It was a very busy month and I continued to learn a lot about how to present weather on-camera.

I'm feeling very comfortable on-camera and more confident with both my weather and Canadian geography knowledge (which plays a big role in our presentation!).
The highlight of the month was being sent to Ottawa to cover a snowstorm on March 18 and 19. It was really enjoyable to have a chance to report on-location from different sites in the Nation's Capital.
I reported live every 20 minutes from 5 a.m. to just after 11 a.m. on the Tuesday. It was a whirlwind trip. We got to to Ottawa around 9:30 p.m. on Monday night, did a quick live report, and then drove to the hotel. I went to bed around 10:30 and was up at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday morning to start the day.
Though it was a very tiring two days, I enjoyed every minute of it and I hope to do some more on-location reporting during storm coverage in the future.
Before I post my air times for April, I just wanted to let those of you residing in the GTA that I will be at the Oshawa Centre Chapters on April 11 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. signing copies of my novel 60'6": Balls, Strikes, and Baseball Mortality.
